Another advantage of being a gardener is that you can help to make other peoples’ gardens nicer.
You can also get to the peoples’ eyes by your work. like if your work is good then you can also be hired by people for making their garden beautiful even if you are working for a landscaping company.
Hence, you will not only carry out the actual work, but also you will have some consulting job which will allow you to meet new people and you will also gain much experience.
Being a gardener is quite relaxed:
Being a gardener is also not that much stress. While there might be some days when you may have to work hard to maintain or clean the garden but this will be for a few days. Most gardeners have a pretty relaxed life.
So, being a gardener, you can have a nice life. If you are a person who has a passion for gardening, then you can also work for your hobbies.
The gardener does not have to sit in an office all day long
Another upside of being a gardener is that you do not have to sit in an office in front of a computer all day long. Many people out there in some other profession just have to sit in their cabin or office in front of a computer screen and work all day long.
For many people, this is very frustrating for them, as they do not get any of nature’s fresh air. On the other hand, you can work under the naked sky in open nature.
The gardener does not have to work for many extra hours
Working as a gardener you do not have to work for many extra hours. Most gardeners just work for 40 hours a week and some even less than that. This means you can have plenty of personal time to spend, you can spend time with your family and friends regularly.
Or else, you can also make out time for some other work so that you can earn some extra money other than working as a gardener.
Gardeners get free weekends and holidays
As a gardener, you can have a standard working schedule, where you can get free weekends and holidays. This will allow you to spend plenty of time with your family, friends, or your loved ones.
Also, you can enjoy your evening as you do not have to work during night time. In some other jobs like wait staff, chef or chemist they do not get standard working time as they have to work every day and they even do not get free holidays.
A College degree is not required to become a gardener
It is one of the biggest advantages that to become a gardener you do not have to go to college for any degree. That means you can just become a gardener after completing high school.
Also, you do not have to spend time for your college and also you do not have to spend a lot of money for getting a college degree. You can just simply start saving after completing high school.
Disadvantages of Being a Gardener
Gardeners do not make much money:
One of the biggest disadvantages of being in a garden is that you cannot make much money. Most of the gardeners in the US just make $ 30-40000 per year on average.
This means that you have to struggle for your livelihood. On some other job, they simply earn more than a gardener.
Gardeners have rather a low job security:
Being a gardener, you may have rather a low job security. As most people can do gardening very well, which means that you can be replaced pretty soon if the company or the owner of the garden gets a more experienced gardener than you or has more power and strength of working than you have.
Gardeners even need a second job:
Some gardeners also need to do a second job or should have a side job. As we discussed, working as a gardener you cannot make much money, so, for this reason, you may have to do some other side business or side job to make more money.
Hence, if you are the type of person who loves money more than anything or you love a luxurious lifestyle, then this profession is not for you.
Gardeners have to work outdoors during bad weather:
As we discussed, it is one of the advantages to work in fresh air or open nature. But it also has a downside that you have to work in extremely bad weather too.
You have to work even if it is a hot summer or cold winter, or you may have to work under the naked sky in heavy rain or heavy snow.
Difficult to switch fields:
Another downside of being a gardener is that you cannot switch your field easily. Especially because you never learned anything else other than gardening.
So, it is normal that you do not have experience or knowledge about other work. Hence, make sure that gardening is what you want to do for the rest of your life.
Rather low social status as a gardener:
Being a gardener, you will also have a low social status. While other professions like doctor, lawyer, head chef, and many others have a high level of social status, in the case of a gardener, you will have a rather low social status.
Make sure that having a low social status does not bother you.
